The Alliance of Automobile Manufacturers is seeking to convince Colorado officials to scrap plans to adopt a zero-emission vehicle mandate like that in place in California, Reuters news agency reported Monday.

Colorado Gov. Jared Polis signed an executive order in January directing the state to adopt California's ZEV rules, which require automakers to offer for sale a specific number of electric, hybrid and other vehicles that use clean technologies to reduce their emissions. Nine other states have adopted the rules first pioneered by California, including Maryland, New York and Oregon.

Auto Alliance representatives met with Polis on April 15 to convince him that voluntary measures would be a better approach to reducing Colorado's vehicle emissions. The group also agreed to make all electric vehicles for sale in California also available in Colorado by early 2020, Reuters reported.

Colorado officials responded to automakers in a letter Monday stating they see an opportunity to work together but still plan to hold a public hearing on the ZEV mandate scheduled for later this week. http://bit.ly/2H3vota
